Born in New York City and raised in the Bay Area, Shirley Mak is currently living and working in her hometown, Union City. She graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in English and a minor in Film, Media and Digital Studies. Shirley has written everything from short stories and poetry to film reviews and travel pieces.

Shirley has worked as an Arts and Entertainment reporter for The Daily Bruin, UCLA's award-winning college newspaper; a managing editor for Pacific Ties, the oldest Asian-American news-magazine in the nation; and a fiction editor for Westwind, her alma mater's literary journal. She has also contributed to Travelage West and provided coverage of the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival, including interviewing the likes of acclaimed directors and producers such as Laura Gabbert and Frank Marshall.

When she is not writing, Shirley enjoys travel, photography, watching foreign films, exploring the great outdoors, and relaxing with a good book.
